Do Staph Infections Cause Acne Breakouts?

It is a fact that all acne is caused by an infection of some kind. Clogged pores can become infected or an infection under the skin can cause acne to appear on the skin's surface. So, do staph infections cause acne breakouts? There is not a clear answer to this question.

First off, you need to understand what causes a staph infection. Staph infections are caused by bacteria that has entered into the body. The bacteria enters through an open cut or wound. The bacteria can be picked up from items that have bacteria or by sharing bed linens, clothing, or towels with someone who has a staph infection.

Now we will address the question, "do staph infections cause acne breakouts?" It is possible for staph infections to appear on the skin. They appear as pus-filled eruptions and are in the form of boils. Though, sometimes they are smaller in size and resemble the typical acne. They usually appear in one or more places on the body and more than one eruption will form.

These eruptions are different from your typical acne. They are different because the cause is not due to clogged pores that are infected. Due to this fact, the typical acne treatments, such as Benzoyl peroxide or Retin-A will not help this type of breakout. Antibiotics will have to be taken in order to clear up this kind of break-out.

So, how can you tell if you have the typical acne break out or a staph infection? You have to know how your own skin behaves. You need to be aware of where your acne typically appears. If the eruptions are in places that acne does not typically appear on your skin, then you might have a staph infection.

If you suspect that you have a staph infection, then you will want to see a doctor. Doctors can diagnose staph infections. Once diagnosed, the will prescribe the antibiotic needed in order to get the problem cleared up.

In sum, "do staph infections cause acne breakouts?" Yes, they do, however, the acne breakout that is caused by staph infections is not the same as the typical acne breakout.
