Retin-A For Acne Scars

Most of us, at one time or another have suffered from acne. It is a common thing that just about everyone has to deal with in his or her lifetime. Some people suffer worse than others and end up with acne scars. They would be candidates for retin-a for acne scars.

You may be wondering, "If most people suffer from acne at one time or another, then why doesn't everyone have scar from the acne?" Acne takes on many different forms. There are comedones. Comedones are clogged pores that become whiteheads and blackheads. Whiteheads are closed comedones and the plug stays the skin, whereas blackheads are open comedones.

There are postules, which are puss-filled acne spots. They are typically red near the skin's surface. There are also papules. Papules are very similar to postules, except that they do not have the puss-filled center. Some people have cysts or nodules. These are the most serious of acne lesions and are the most likely to leave scars. This kind of acne reaches deep into the skin. They are very painful. These are large and puss-filled.

Not only does acne take on different forms, but there are different levels of severity, which plays a role in scarring also. Those who have mild acne will have mostly whiteheads and blackheads. Sometimes they will have postules and papules, but they will be small. There is no significant or lasting scarring with mild acne.

Those who have moderate acne will be dealing with postules and papules. They will also be dealing with more severe blackheads and whiteheads than those who have mild acne. Those with severe acne will have to battle cysts. The redness and swelling will result in scarring.

There is hope for those who have battled acne that have left scars. Retina is a medication that help reduce the scarring and reduce the risk of new acne forming. This type of medication is applied in a thin layer to the affected area. Medications such as retina and retinol are prescriptions. You can talk to your dermatologist about getting retin-a for acne scars that you have.
